Savonius wind turbine

This is one type of VAWT turbines. It was designed in 1922. by Sigurd Savonius.

Some facts:

• Blades always face the wind;
• Drag – type;
• Doesnt need a push start.

On grid vawt wind turbine

Some basic elements of pure VAWT ongrid solution.

There are such a components needed for on grid solution:

• VAWT Turbine generator
• Blades
• Tower
• Fundament
• Inverter
• Controller
• Cables

VAWT generator generates AC. It is converted to DC by controller. Inverter turn this DC to AC and moves energy to grid.

Types of Vertical Axis Wind Turbines

Each of them have advantages and disadvantiges.

Diameter and height could be the same, but sweep area wouldn’t be the same.

For example are for “H” vawt turbine is greater than “Phi” turbine.
